About this site

Hi! I'm Patrick, and I recently picked up drawing and painting as a hobby. Since I also enjoy self-hosting my projects, I decided to start this little blog to share my artistic journey. My goal is to enjoy the process of creating and continue learning new techniques and honing my skills along the way.

I love working with pens (especially fineliners and fountain pens), graphite pencils, and watercolors. I'm always experimenting with new mediums, so you might see occasional charcoal or marker pieces too!

I got started with drawing in the summer of 2024. I was reading through Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport, and in it he advocates for a 30 day digital detox. During those 30 days you limit phone use/screentime to an absolute minimum and replace that time with meaningful activities. The best type of activities are activities where you're creating something and/or actively learning a new skill. I decided to start drawing, and it stuck with me long after those 30 days.

You can expect to see the following content here:

  • Inktober and Inktober 52: a set of drawing prompts to create an ink drawing every day of October, and every week of the year
  • Urban sketching with pen and watercolor
  • Excerpts from my illustrated journal
  • Random doodles and scribbles

Some of the artists that inspire me:

  • Toby Sketchloose: An urban sketcher with a very distinctive 'loose' style. I enjoy his YouTube videos and often create pieces inspired by his approach.
  • Peter Draws: A doodle artist who creates intricate, detailed pieces mostly with just a black pen. His YouTube channel is mesmerizing to watch—his random commentary makes it perfect for relaxing and doodling along.

Feel free to take a look at my other projects:

  • https://blog.vuokko.be - a blog where I write about gaming, drawing, chess, other stuff that I'm interested in. It's been my go-to space for personal rambling since 2022.
  • https://music.vuokko.be - a blog where I share great music and talk a little about the songs I share. Since starting this blog in February 2022, I've shared over 100 songs on it.
